| Issue 4 • December 2009 Winners in the Windy City Okay, we couldn't resist the alliteration. But there really were a lot of winners at Onrec Expo 2009. Despite an incredibly difficult employment environment, recruiters, HR managers, and other professionals turned out to learn about the latest strategies and technologies in online recruitment. And, despite the economy, there was a prevailing mood of optimism. Speakers and attendees alike acknowledged the circumstances (read: 2009 was rough, extremely rough), but among industry veterans especially there was an understanding that the sun will come out tomorrow (bet your bottom dollar). Onrec Expo 2009 was home to high-level sessions and discussions, and it showcased many exciting new products and services. Speaking of which, the show also included presentation of the 2009 awards. Onrec was honored that industry guru Gerry Crispin of CareerXroads fame served as grand poobah of ceremony, bestowing the equivalent of the online recruitment industry's Oscars to winners in the categories of Best Online Career Website, Most Innovative Online Recruiters, Most Innovative College Recruiting Campaign, Most Innovative Employee Referral Program, and Game-Changing Recruiting Technology. It's a (W)rap Onrec Expo 2009. Ah, it's all over but the memories… Except, that's not even close to being accurate. As employers prepare for an improved economy, they're drawing on what they learned at the conference. Survey after survey suggests hiring will heat up in 2010, and savvy professionals know it's prudent to be prepared. While the world has been dealing with an economic recession, the online recruitment industry has been evolving. Today, there are methods and tools for attracting talent that didn't exist a year ago. So, where do we go from here? Why, to Onrec Expo 2010, of course, which promises to be even bigger and better than this year's event. Can you say recovery?
