Boston Young Entrepreneurs - November

ONEin3 Boston
Boston Young Entrepreneurs November 2009
Entrepreneurs,

So, last month we had a beer theme. This month we kind of have a green theme. Go with me now. We have Emergent Energy Group presenting their business plan on the 11th at our November Main Event and TWO bike companies on our panel on Alternative Financing.

Check it out.

We just told you about how Emergent Group's team was named by Business Week among America's Best Young Entrepreneurs.

Well, now we're happy to announce that they'll be presenting their business plan to BYE at our November Main Event. Join us as we learn what Emergent's model of sustainability consulting is all about and help them solve a few problems.

Date
: Wednesday, November 11th
Time: 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Location: WorkBar, 129 South Street, Boston
RSVP: Devin.Cole.BRA@CityofBoston.gov or on Facebook

To read up on Emergent's questions for the BYE group, see the BYE Blog.

Please join us on November 19th at 6pm for a special BYE event in partnership with ACCION USA, where we'll be exploring traditional and non-traditional financing options for young entrepreneurs

Come hear from ACCION USA's Elizabeth Garlow, along with two excellent BYE entrepreneurs: Urban Adventours Chief Wheel Office Andrew Prescott and Geek House Bikes founder Marty Walsh. Hey look at that! Last month we had a beer theme, this month it's bikes...hmm, well don't drink and bike people. Keep an eye on the blog for one more panelist, to be announced shortly.

And, in case you need more of a draw, BYE superstar Morgan First of The Second Glass will be our moderator. You know this will be awesome.

Oh wait, there's ANOTHER draw. Thanks to our friends Chase and Kevin from Pinyadda, we get to check out some great co-work space in the former offices of Hangout.net on Chauncy Street. If your company needs a place to set up shop, this is your opportunity to see

Date
: Thursday, November 19th
Time: 6:00pm to 8:00opm
Location: Pinyadda, 110 Chauncy Street, Downtown
RSVP: Devin.Cole.BRA@Cityofboston.gov or on Facebook

I know we've got some talented web-developers out there in the BYE community. Well, we have an opportunity for you!

The City of Boston needs a volunteer web-developer with experience building interactive, web 2.0-style sites. In terms of specific skills/experience, we'd like some combination of:
  • Javascript
  • Flash
  • Database development
  • Rapid prototyping
  • Mashup development
  • Twitter / Twitter API
  • Facebook apps
This person needs to be able to work independently, and be able to work with the City of Boston Innovation Team (how'd I get on that???) in developing the requirements for the site, which will cater to small businesses in need of digital media support.

For the first stage of the project, you'll be asked to build out a solid Word Press template that will be built out as we move forward.

While we can't pay you for your work, we believe that the exposure that this project will bring you will more than offset the time that you'll have to spend working on it.

If you're interested, email me here at Devin.Cole.BRA@CityofBoston.gov as soon as possible
We hope to see you on Wednesday and the 19th! In the meantime, join us on facebook and LinkedIn.

Sincerely,

Devin Cole
