Position: Customer Experience Researcher and Designer (Usability)

Length of contract: 6+ months

Location: San Jose, CA F2F Required;

 

Job Description:  Customer Experience Researcher and Designer to engage in the design and development of  differentiated “Service Experience Types” (SET) .

The Service Experience team is looking for a part-time resource, working not more than 20hrs/week on the project.

 

Responsibilities:

* Customer Research & Experience Design

-          Develop research plans by collaborating with other disciplines such as Market Research

-          Drive customer research and insight studies related to discovery and understanding of important unsolved and unmet problems & needs.

-          Analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information

-          Discover and define important unmet needs and critical insight into customer/partner behavior around problems, workflows and situations ...both white space or targeted/defined areas

-          Present results of research efforts, creating both compelling presentations and experience design/offering recommendations, write research reports, and present the results to the stakeholders

-          Provide concrete, actionable recommendations to the SET team

* Collaborate & Influence

-          Engage customers, partners and 3rd party influences in research, discovery and design to gain their trust and ability to draw deep insight to influence our offerings and customer experience.

-          Work with the team and key stakeholders to understand and promulgate a strong vision for user experience

* Apply Best Practice

-          Apply knowledge of usability, human factors, experimental or cognitive psychology, ethnography, anthropology, and the user-centered design process to experience design

 

 

Must have skills:

-          Analytic and strategic thinking based on deriving insights from disparate pieces of information and translating those insights into potential opportunities

-          Applies and advocates design principles and iterative design processes.

-          Comfortably moves between highly varying levels of abstraction from business strategy to product strategy to high level technical design to implementation.

-          Creates visualizations of concepts and ideas that help facilitates generation of solutions and creates shared vision.

-          Cultural empathy and ability to understand people’s emotions and values ability to locate and position Cisco offerings within a wide ecosystem and real-world context. Sensitivity to cultural norms and understanding why user experiences might succeed or fail in a geographical theater or market.

-          Excellent moderating, listening and observational skills. Ability to enter new environments and quickly establish rapport.

-          Experience in setting up research schedules and logistics, writing screeners, discussion guides, etc.

-          Up to date with relevant customer research, design and industry trends

 

Collaboration

-          Excellent collaboration skills. Enjoy working closely with others, respectful of other perspectives.

 

Execution

-          Create estimates of schedules, work plans and deliverables for projects, communicate issues and risks.

-          Create reasonable estimates of schedules, work plans and deliverables for their work.

-          Organized, self-directed, efficient and able to manage complex projects in a timely manner

 

Communication & Documentation:

-          Creates clearly documented designs that effectively communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences. These should clearly articulate the applicable objectives, requirements, design principles and rationale.

-          Creates and maintains comprehensive design documentation (e.g. specifications, diagrams, prototypes, other assets).

-          Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

-          Language skills: English, other.

 

Measurement:

-          Attention to metrics - collect, analyze, and report ease-of-use and other key metrics and use these metrics to identify areas for improvement

 

Education:

* Master's or PhD in design, the social sciences, HCI or related fields, or related experience

 

Experience:

* Minimum 7+ years experience in customer/user research and interaction design.

* Senior-level research and design experience in very early stage concept testing

* Track record of successful team leadership, especially on cross-functional innovation teams.

* Ability to build positive, collaborative relationships across teams/groups/functions through facilitative leadership

* Excellent command of: user experience methods, design principles, problem-framing skills, verbal and written communication skills

* Proven experience delivering products and services to the market

* Strong experience with using customer experience delight metrics to measure progress and guide development of the customer experience.

* Proficiency with user experience research and design tools: Visio and drawing tools, storyboarding tools, remote testing tools, usability lab.

* Proven experience with design documentation and communicating designs to cross-functional audiences.

* Determining project leverage points through root cause analysis.

* Vetting customer needs and criteria through contextual research, rapid concept testing, and end-to-end workflow analysis.

* Narrowing project goals and concepts through customer feedback.

* International work or travel is a plus.
