Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing

Video conferencing. Virtual expos. Islands in Second Life. At Onrec, we're big proponents of technology and today's meeting solutions. Still, when it comes to conferences, we tend to agree with the late great Marvin Gaye.

Yes, yes—admittedly, we're a little biased. After all, we are co-hosting the recruitment event of the year, November 3-4 in Chicago.

So, rather than share our point of view, we'd like to share a few comments from an article that appeared in Onrec's Online Recruitment Magazine.

In response to the question, "Why do you attend conferences," here's what three industry experts said:

Jeremy Eskenazi, managing principal, Riviera Advisors: "One primary reason is to see what's new in the industry; specifically, to meet with vendors to check out the new and improved products and services available. Also, I get a lot of benefit from listening to the sessions to see what's on the minds of the recruiting and HR professionals. And finally, most importantly, I attend these sessions to network with recruiting professionals."

Steven Rothberg, president and founder, CollegeRecruiter.com: "Speaking at recruitment conferences is our most efficient and effective means of marketing our job board."

Did You Know? ...

Lisa Tromba, vice president, Battalia Winston: "A conference setting is a 'meeting of the minds' and I have found it be an effective venue which fosters collaboration on efforts ranging from forming valuable 'like minded' networking groups to business development initiatives to collaborative publishing opportunities."

Yep, ain't nothing like the real thing—see you at Onrec Expo 2009, www.onrec.com/expo2009.

Travel for Less

Okay, we know corporate travel budgets aren't what they once were. And companies are more selective about employee expenditures.

Which brings us to Chicago...literally.

As both a U.S. midpoint and an easy-access international destination, Chicago offers travelers cost advantages. Bargain flights abound, and hotels are less expensive than in many other metropolitan locations.

In fact, all the major travel websites currently have incredible deals on travel to Chicago.

Before you—or your company—nix the idea of travel, be sure to check out your savings options.

Once you do, you'll see how affordable Onrec Expo 2009 really is.
